100 people drawing
Date
9 November 2013, Drawathon in Doha
Goal
The Drawathon celebrates creative spaces and collections, through drawing, because beyond spoken language, drawing connects us to ideas, that can lead anywhere and turn into anything!
How
Artist-led, public drawing events, held on 1 day, in relay, at cultural institutions across the city
Timeline
September/ 1:1 meetings / shared understanding across institutions
October / finalise logistics / communicate to networks
November / host Drawathon / exhibition / evaluation
Programme
Each Drawathon session is open-ended, and journeys between the participating institutions become part of the event.
Expanding perceptions and networks for participants and institutions. Looking, drawing, sharing laughter and action!
Free: materials / transport / drinks
Tri-lingual support: Arabic, English, Hindi
Afterwards
Culminating in a display of 100 drawings made during the day. Resulting potentially in future participants for creative activities, lessons for practitioners and overall, expanded notions of drawing.
Conclusion
Many of us have inhibitions, toward creative activities with others, so the Drawathon focuses on enjoying joining in and participants come and go as they please; however, guided by creative professionals that draw as part of their practice, a lot can be learnt during each session and throughout the entire day.
